The gnarled, bumpy subject kneels, gazing off a cliff, inspecting. Watching. Is he the “unfortunate soul?” The “ground-animal?” Or was it you casting your prejudices upon the subject’s disfigured form?
The first illustration of the series, as I experiment with the process and method. There was an interest in wanting to capture a sort of “Renaissance pencil sketch” aesthetic, but as you move forward in the catalogue, you’ll see how long that interest lasted.
